Life is made up of many pieces, like a puzzle. Here I attempt to put them all together.

From Twitter 08-12-2010

  • I guess this is going to be day four of my helper not coming in. :-(
  • Weather forecast says today will be another hot one with thunderstorms this afternoon. Looks like another inside day for us.
  • Watching landlord load his truck up with paint cans. Wish I could believe he was coming here to paint.
  • I ate way too much junk food yesterday. Today I'm eating heatlhy. Beginning right after I finish this bowl of Lucky Charms. ;-)
  • I am seriously considering starting a blog called The Adventures and Misdeeds of Michael. lol
  • RT @foldinglaundry: Sibling love: Anna (7yo) singing to Eli (4mos) "you're the #1 tooter but I still love you."
  • One of Michael`s favorite activities right now is cutting paper and string.
  • I let him do it in the afternoons at nap time (since he refuses to nap) as his special quiet activity.

  • I wonder why the cat is so hyper tonight. He`s running around the house like a wild thing!

On My Mind - Tuesday March 30, 2010

A lot of things are on my mind right now. Some important, some rather trivial, most of them in between. Here are a few of them.

Tomorrow we go for Austin's follow up CT scan and visit with the neurosurgeon. While I feel that the bleeding is still stopped I also still feel a certain sense of unease about this visit. Maybe it's family history, there seem to be a lot of unpleasant health surprises in my extended family, or maybe it's just the natural concern of a mother, but I'll be glad when this appointment is over and we get the all clear. Austin has been nervous about the appointment as well today, having a hard time concentrating on his assignments and losing himself in movies during his free time.

I have lots of exciting new ideas for this blog and can hardly wait too get the time to implement them. Because my family and the children I care for need me during the day my writing and "blog" time has to be in the evenings after everyone else goes to bed. This week I've been drinking 5 hour energy drinks to keep myself going at night so I have "me time"  and "blog time."While I'm not sure that's such a great solution it's the best I can do right now. I did discover that drinking two of them in one day is really not a good option for me, even though the instructions say it's okay to do so.I guess that was my lesson for today.

We got a wonderful taste of warm spring weather last week. The children got to go outside and play, the windows were open, Doug even grilled chicken one evening and we ate outside on our front porch. Now it's windy, damp and chilly again and I'm tired of having cold feet. I want Spring back!

And now I think it's time for me to go to bed before I fall asleep sitting here in this chair. I guess my 5 hours of energy is just about used up.

A Few Things Begin to Come Together

It's 10:32PM and I'm typing this while waiting for the last child for the day to go home. Well, actually, that's not quite true. Another child leaves around midnight, but his mother just comes in and gets him and I don't have to stay awake and wait for her. Another child will be staying overnight so that his grandmother can go home and sleep after her shift. The first child tomorrow comes in between 5:00 and 5:30AM. It's going to be a short night. Normally the first child comes an hour later there was a slight schedule change for tomorrow.

Michael seems to be feeling better and slept well last night so I hope we've dodged anything too serious with him. I have been giving him Motrin before he goes to bed just to make sure he isn't hurting and can sleep. But he hasn't had a fever so I think he's fine.

Austin's pediatrician's nurse finally called me yesterday with a date for Austin's next EEG. It will be March 24th. When I asked her about the Pediatric Neurologist appointment, she first said that they wanted to wait until after the EEG. Then she said we already had an appointment to see the Pediatric Neurologist March 31. I pointed out that we were seeing the Neurosurgeon not a Neurologist but she didn't seem to get the point. So I guess I'll wait until after the EEG and then ask again. Frustrating! I am glad to say though that Austin is doing well, although I still definitely have some concerns. (For background on our adventure with Austin see posts here and here.) My impression is that the seizure medication is helping.

I'm excited because tomorrow I am scheduled to have an interview with a family about keeping two little boys, ages 1 and 2. If this works out it will mean I can have my helper come back full time. I've been waiting for this for about six months now. Whether I have three children or ten children to take care of they need my constant attention and it's hard to have to try to do the other work that goes with this adventure while also caring for the children. To be able to focus nearly exclusively on the kids during the day is a dream come true for me.  If this family decides to bring the children here they would start on Monday. I'm hoping!
